44' Alden 44 MK I Cutter
1990
US$ 295,000
The craftsmen at the John G. Alden company designed and built the highest quality yachts in their Portsmouth Rhode Island yard for 99 years. Their reputation for quality construction was unsurpassed. Alden's philosophy which permeated the entire yard was "nothing, but nothing, is too good for an Alden". The Alden hulls are bullet proof. The fiberglass in the hulls is unidirectional, the coring is vacuum bagged balsa, there are foam cored glass stringers that run bow to stern for stiffening and the structural bulkheads are 2.5" thick. The mechanical and electrical systems are impeccable. Everywhere one looks they see perfection from the bilges to the lockers to the rig. The Portsmouth yard closed in late 2008 and their design collection is now being incorporated into the M.I.T. "Hart Nautical Collection". Alden yachts are known to turn sailors heads and stop them in their tracks on the docks.
This yacht is an American classic. From her sharp high powerful bow, to her incredible flowing sheer line, to one of the prettiest sterns ever launched, and her cutter rig configuration. This yacht is absolutely perfect. Below decks her fit and finish is as good as it gets. She is hull number 36 of 38 and she still belongs to her long time owners. The yacht has cruised the Med, the Adriatic, the Caribbean and she is now lying in San Francisco Bay. She has been lovingly cared for with an open checkbook. Her interior is flawless and she still smells like a new boat. With a Bow Thruster, Generator and Central Heat & Air Conditioning you can comfortably cruise anywhere in the world in this fine yacht.
After a long term love affair with EXILE her owners have decided to make the move to a long range cruising trawler to enjoy in their senior years.
